Baltimore County School System
My grand daughter is 13 days shy of the cut-off for start of kindergarten. In order for her to be admitted to school this year she had to take an exam. Now get this, she is a 4 soon to be 5 year old Black child, one of the problems on the exam require her to view a photo of a lacrosse stick and identify it. Another was to view a photo of a canoe and identify it not as a boat but a canoe. This went on and on. The supreme example of stupidity was to show her a thermometer and ask her to read it. Over all we think she did pretty good, however the test score will not be available for another two weeks. What in the H--- is going on in the Baltimore County School system. How in the world can they afford to pay someone to sit down and ask these questions of a kid just to allow her to start kindergarten with others her age.
My wife is a former 2nd grade teacher and she has never heard of anything so bizarre. I remember the day when I would have made a big deal about this, but I have mellowed out over the years. I now wait until an actionable event has occurred before declaring war.

Well just as I thought, Jadyn passed the test with flying colors. She was above average on 11 parts of the exam, average on 1, and below average on the test with the canoe and lacrosse stick questions. I still wonder why they would give such a test. Any ideas?
