The Flood of Group Home in Western Baltimore County
I just returned from a most disappointing community meeting. For years we have known Western Baltimore County (Randallstown and Woodlawn) has gotten the bulk of the licensed group homes in the County. Tonight we experienced our votes and tax dollars at work. Apparently state government is helpless in seeing that these homes are fairly distributed across the county. I personally believe that is BS. To make matter simple, I suggest we propose putting a group home in Pikesville, Lutherville, and Towson to see how the folks in those areas shut the process down. Believe me, the licensing process would be shutdown down faster than a speeding bullet. If current laws wouldn't do the job, a proposal would be developed ASAP to deal with the situation.
The first thing we need to do is get politicians in office at the local, state, and federal levels able and willing to help us find solutions to community problems. To leave a meeting of this sort without a commitment from the State Senator to work the issue is shameful.
What do you think?
Baltimore County School System
My grand daughter is 13 days shy of the cut-off for start of kindergarten. In order for her to be admitted to school this year she had to take an exam. Now get this, she is a 4 soon to be 5 year old Black child, one of the problems on the exam require her to view a photo of a lacrosse stick and identify it. Another was to view a photo of a canoe and identify it not as a boat but a canoe. This went on and on. The supreme example of stupidity was to show her a thermometer and ask her to read it. Over all we think she did pretty good, however the test score will not be available for another two weeks.
What in the H--- is going on in the Baltimore County School system. How in the world can they afford to pay someone to sit down and ask these questions of a kid just to allow her to start kindergarten with others her age.
My wife is a former 2nd grade teacher and she has never heard of anything so bizarre. I remember the day when I would have made a big deal about this, but I have mellowed out over the years. I now wait until an actionable event has occurred before declaring war.

Is it really this bad?
After a week in Myrtle Beach with the family I am apparently back in the real world. The first thing I noticed was the really gruesome news programs. The fact that the first thing I heard was the story about a 11 year old found murdered was like pouring ice cold water over my over exposed scalp. To make matter worst, the suspected killer is a friend of the family and a known “sex offender”.
Well after getting by that sad situation, I picked up the news paper to see my favorite hangout, the Owing Mills theater, was the scene of police action while I was out of town. Don't get me wrong, I hope law enforcement jack up the heat so high that the “want to be criminals” find another haunt far away from where I go. But the fact that so much happened up here and virtually nothing was going on in Myrtle Beach, except relaxation and the slow gradual depletion of my savings is surprising. The South Carolina news was so boring I got most of my news from CNN and that other station with the supposedly “true and balanced” coverage.
Anyhow, I am back and I am sure I'll gradually toughen up. In the meantime I'll try to get back into the gym and work off some of the weight I apparently gained.
Oh yes, whats with those great big ugly Ehrlich signs? I have to pass one every time I go to the food market. Are they legal?
